Wind advisory issued in Wicomico County today, March 5

David Bohenick

A series of thunderstorms are traveling up the East Coast and could cause severe weather in Wicomico County today.

A wind advisory was issued by the National Weather Service in Wakefield, Va., and is in effect in southeast Maryland and eastern Virginia from 9:00 a.m. this morning until 6:00 p.m. tonight.

South winds are expected, ranging from 25 mph to 30 mph and gusts reaching as high as 45 mph. The National Weather Service advises residents to drive cautiously and to secure outside objects, since the winds may result in power outages and falling tree limbs at these speeds.

The National Weather Service predicts a near 100 percent chance of precipitation today, and a slight chance of showers on Thursday morning after 1 a.m. Showers, and possibly thunderstorms, are expected to start after 2 p.m. today.

The wind advisory was also issued for Somerset County, Maryland Beaches and inland Worcester County, as well as Accomack and Northampton, Va.
