Salisbury University will soon host its annual spring concert on March 29 at the Wicomico Civic Center. This year’s headliner is Waka Flocka Flame, with Travis Porter.
This event was organized by SU's Student Organization and Planning (SOAP) committee.
Logan Krebs has worked with SOAP as the director of annual events for two years now. She said while planning the concert, there are a lot of steps that go into consideration to ensure a smooth process.
“We have a partnership with the Civic Center, so we work very closely with them,” Krebs said. “Then we go through a process of selecting an artist that takes weeks to go through.”
When it comes to choosing the performers, SOAP relies on student input to guide its decisions. According to Krebs, past surveys have pointed towards a preference for hip-hop and pop artists, making this year’s line up an easy choice.
“Previously we’ve done a round of surveys and we’ve done them at events on campus,” Krebs said. “All of the surveys we’ve done have said the exact same thing, so we wanted to do hip-hop or pop.”
The tickets are available at a discounted price for students. There are additional promotional opportunities on campus including flyers and ticket sales tables at the Guerrieri Student Union.
While this event is designed with students in mind, it is also open to the public. This year, there are multiple seating and pit options available.
“There are two different student pits this year with a section of seats for the students as well” Krebs said, “There are also two community pits.”
All three of the sections for students will be reserved, ensuring each student ticket has a seat. Those wishing to attend with non-SU friends can purchase community tickets at a separate rate. Krebs said overall success isn’t just about ticket sales, but also about student satisfaction.
“We look at the qualitative data to see if students had fun, but also the quantitative data with the ticket sales,” Krebs said. “We do our best to ensure those numbers are as high as possible, but my personal measure of success is whether or not our students had fun.”
Concert details and ticket information can be found on SOAPs Instagram, @susoap, where students can stay updated on promotions and sales.
