Salisbury University hosts an annual competition for anyone living on campus to see who has the best decorated room. This takes place in the beginning of the fall semester.
This year, the finalists were chosen on September 23 and the winners, Chelsea Connelly and Jess Kiethley of Nanticoke, were announced on Thursday. The event and its details are posted on the schools Instagram page, @flocktosu.
Jenna Payne is an admissions counselor as well as a SU alumnus. She has been hosting the event for a few years now and plans to continue.
“I came up with SU Cribz in 2019 as a fun way to engage current SU students but also as a way to include prospective students that can’t always make it to campus,” Payne said.
According to Jenna, every year SU Cribz ignites excitement for students living on campus because they have the opportunity to show their personality. “I definitely think it sparks interest. It shows them that they have something to look forward to.” Students also have the chance to win a gift card to the SU bookstore.
Payne said this a great opportunity for students to see the different style rooms that SU has to offer such as suites and clusters. During tours you only see one room. Having this competition on Instagram allows everyone to see how students can make the space their own.
“Living on campus can be such a big deciding factor for some students so this allows us to bring that portion to them," Payne said.
Although there are similarities like sting lights and vines in the rooms, Payne says that each of the rooms are always different and showcases the students creativity.
This year SU Cribz had a total of 3,322 votes for all the candidates. The marketing department also has future plans to have a video shoot focusing on the winning room.
