Salisbury University announced this semester it will offer men’s and women’s golf starting the 2024-2025 year. This marks the university's 22nd and 23rd varsity teams.

The two teams will be added as a part of the “Salisbury Seven” initiative announced in President Lepre’s Inaugural State of the University Address Feb. 7.

"We know that one of the things that makes our SU campus community so unique is our strong history of Division III athletics,” Lepre said. "The addition of these two sports will provide new opportunities for student-athletes from across our country to contribute to the growth of our campus and be a part of a nationally renowned athletics program."

“It was time to add another varsity sport [and] there were many options but [golf] was the most reasonable," Director of Sports Information Cyrill Parham said.

Parham said the sports department hopes to attract more student-athletes to SU's campus with the new teams.

“What makes us stand out is that most programs at SU are national contenders – we expect no different for the golf program.”

Nationwide recruiting for a coach will begin late this spring and in summer 2024 for players.
