Salisbury University President Carolyn Lepre announced there will now be a two-day break in the calendar for the fall semester of 2025. The dates are set for Oct. 21 and Oct. 22.

"October 21: The campus will be closed in observance or Columbus/Indigenous People Day as a floating holiday," Lepre announced. "October 22: Campus will reopen, but no classes will be held."

President Lepre said the change is to improve campus morale but some students, like Tyler Brushwood, question this decision since the dates are on Tuesday and Wednesday in 2025. Brushwood said he is confused by the decision to have the break in the middle of the week.

"As much as I do appreciate any form of days off from school, this break just does not make sense to me," Brushwood said. "It's on a Tuesday and Wednesday, which means we will have one day of class on that week on Monday, then the break, then two days of class.

"Like I said I do very much appreciate breaks or time off from school, it is much needed. But this fall break won't feel like a break if it's only for two days in the middle of the week."

President Lepre also stated in her announcement more details will come as the fall semester approaches.
