Salisbury University weekly sports recap (3/7/25 - 3/13/25)

The Salisbury University men's basketball team is scheduled to face Virginia Wesleyan University in the Eastern College Athletic Conference Championship game on March 15, at VWU.
SU's basketball team defeated #7 University of Maine at Presque Isle 77-63 on Saturday. The team also bested #3 New Jersey City University 69-65 on Sunday to secure its spot in the conference finals.
Track and Field
The track and field program sent SU athletes to compete in the All-Atlantic Region Track and Field Conference in Ithaca, N.Y, on March 7 and March 8.
SU's Kai Smith set a facility record in the 200-meter dash at the A&E Center, finishing with a time of 21.64 seconds and earning a gold medal. Karia Forvil also set a school record in the 200-meter dash, earning fifth place with a time of 25.35.
Mia Hill also finished fourth place at the conference in the long jump with 5.58 meters. Jadon Gaines would also finish fourth place in the high jump at 1.98 meters.
The men and women's track and field teams also finished first place Saturday in the Lloyd Sigler Spring Meet at home. The Sea Gull men earned 359 points, while second place went to Goldey-Beacom at 89 points. The Sea Gull women finished first with 278 points, with Goldey-Beacom finishing in second-place again, earning 135 points.
Lacrosse
The men's lacrosse team won both of its games this week, defeating Connecticut's #6 Wesleyan University 16-12 on Saturday and Ohio Wesleyan 15-8 on Tuesday to remain undefeated.
Connecticut led 9-6 at halftime before the Sea Gulls scored eight consecutive goals in the third and fourth quarters to secure the victory. Tuesday's game saw the Sea Gulls force the most turnovers in over a decade as they won their seventh consecutive game.
The women's team lost in overtime 11-12 to #6 Gettysburg in an away game Saturday. The Sea Gulls' Goalie Paige Ellis recorded a season-high 14 saves despite the loss.
Softball
The softball team won all four of its games on Saturday and Sunday. On Saturday, the team defeated Stockton University 4-3 and McDaniel College 11-0. On Sunday, the Sea Gulls bested Stockton 13-3 in game one and 6-3 in game two.
On Saturday's game against Stockton, the Sea Gulls came back from a three-point deficit by scoring four runs in the seventh inning. The game against McDaniel College ended in the fifth inning after a blowout victory.
Game one on Sunday ended in just five innings as well, after the Sea Gulls scored 10 points in the third and fourth innings. Game two went all seven innings but Stockton failed to score any points until the final inning of the game.
Baseball
The #9 ranked Salisbury University baseball team bested William Peace 14-1 at home on Wednesday, after losing to #3 Johns Hopkins Blue Jays in an away game 2-9 on Sunday.
The Sea Gulls scored one point in the bottom of the first inning and led 1-0 against Johns Hopkins on Sunday's game, until the Blue Jays scored three points in the third inning. The Sea Gulls would only score one more point in the sixth inning.
On Wednesday, William Peace only scored one point in the second-inning while the Sea Gulls picked up 14 points in the first six innings. The game ended in its seventh inning.
The Sea Gulls also defeated The College of New Jersey on Saturday 7-2 in a home game.
Tennis
The women's tennis team won both of its games this week 7-0 at home, first defeating the Gettysburg Bullets on Saturday then the Bryn Mawr Owls on Monday.
The men's tennis team also bested Gettysburg on Saturday at home 7-0, and went on to defeat the Averrett Cougars 5-2 at home on Sunday to remain undefeated this season.
