With another Student Government Association (SGA) election completed, Salisbury University welcomes its newly elected SGA cabinet. As the new leadership prepares to take office in the next academic year (2025-2026), SU students can look forward to new initiatives, new policies, and a renewed commitment to representing the student body effectively.
Jahnaiya Sutherland has been elected as Salisbury University’s next SGA President.
In her platform, Sutherland emphasized the importance of inclusive leadership, pledging to ensure that “all students feel seen, heard, and valued in every corner of campus life.” Sutherland plans to prioritize community engagement and work toward creating a safer, more vibrant campus environment.
"I’m excited to lead with purpose and continue building a campus where every student feels seen, supported, and empowered," Sutherland said in an email to The Flyer. "As president, I plan to strengthen connections across different student communities, increase transparency within SGA, and advocate for initiatives that make Salisbury a more inclusive, engaging, and student-centered environment."
Thabiso Ratlou has been elected as SU’s next SGA Vice President.
Ratlou’s platform is based on “strengthening communication between SGA and the student body, improving internal efficiency, and supporting initiatives that empower student organizations.” Ratlou plans on working closely with the Senate, Executive Board, and campus leadership to make SGA a more effective advocate for students alike.
AJ Fontaine has been elected as SU’s next SGA Chief of Staff.
Fontaine plans to contribute ideas to the board to improve them and the inner workings of the student government to make SGA a better advocate for the student body. Fontaine also plans to create a smoother transition for the next administration, ultimately helping them adjust more easily to their new roles and responsibilities.
In addition to the top executive positions, several other students were elected to new roles within SGA. Each position comes with unique perspectives and goals to the new administration, contributing to advancing student leadership at SU.
