Pickleball is a new, upcoming sport that combines elements of other racket sports like tennis, badminton, and table tennis. It is played on a smaller court with a lower net than tennis and uses hard plastic balls and solid paddles. The game can be played in singles or doubles and is known for its accessibility, making it popular among players of all ages and skill levels.

Salisbury University student and SU's Pickleball Club President Lindsay Kenna describes the sport as the fastest growing sport in America. Kenna says an estimated four million people are playing across the country. The growing interest in the sport caused her to form a student-led club dedicated to Pickleball.
“I love seeing the people who show up to practice and enjoy the sport [just as much] as I do," Kenna said. "It’s just as much a social event as it is a sport, and the amazing people are half the fun.”
Kenna explained how the club also introduces beginners to the sport. She said the club makes beginners feel welcome while teaching them how to improve at the game.
“Our executive members are all proficient at the sport and have coached a multitude of players from beginner to intermediate, improving basic skills and strategy,” Kenna said. "Any beginner entering the club will find a welcoming and fun environment.”
Kenna also shared how the club has taken initiatives to continue growing.
“We’ve participated in Relay for Life and several involvement fairs,” she said. “We’ve also had opportunities for community outreach by volunteering at local pickleball tournaments and charity games.

“Salisbury pickleball is reflective of that growth and we hope to continue growing with the sport of pickleball.”
