University Police and the Salisbury Police Department responded to a 911 call last night where Salisbury University student Garret Roe, who was in a wheelchair, was reportedly struck by a vehicle while crossing at a crosswalk and sent to Peninsula Regional Medical Center.

“The occupants (younger ladies) exited the SUV and helped him sit up and bystanders called an ambulance. As soon as witnesses called the police, the occupants got back into their SUV and fled,” a close family friend of Roe told The Flyer. “They left Garrett, who only has one arm and no functioning legs, there bleeding.”

“I was in the military and been to some pretty bad places, but this guy is my hero. He never gets down and is always happy and social.”

The SPD is investigating the incident.

If anyone has any more information regarding this incident, please contact the SPD first at 410-548-3165 and also The Flyer, @trox3 on twitter, jtroxell1@gulls.salisbury.edu or swiley1@gulls.salisbury.edu.
